Welcome to my annual 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS! 

If you’re new to this – here’s how it works:

1.   Each day from December 1 through December 12 I will put up a new giveaway HERE on my website with instructions on how to enter, a detailed description of the prize, and some stuff about the book or series. Each giveaway is different and each has ONE WINNER. MY GIVEAWAYS ARE ALWAYS OPEN INTERNATIONAL 

2.   Each giveaway runs UNTIL DECEMBER 13.

3.   Winners are CHOSEN and NOTIFIED on December 14. I will be notifying winners USING THE EMAIL USED TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG – and all winners will BE LISTED AT THE TOP OF EACH GIVEAWAY POST HERE ON MY WEBSITE on December 14.

4.   Winners have 24 hours to respond, then another winner will be chosen.

5.   ALL PRIZES WILL BE MAILED ON DECEMBER 15.  If I’m waiting on a winner to respond and they miss the December 15 mail date, that prize will be mailed when I get around to it. I live in the middle of nowhere so a trip to the post office is a “thing” for me. 🙂 So make sure you’re checking for winners on the 14th.

MY ANSWER

Well, obviously I write whatever I want so most of them start as… this is the best IDEA EVER! Then it goes through the process where I hate and can’t wait to start the next book that will be THE BEST BOOK EVER… then I usually love it again at the end. But it’s painful.

So… I guess the question for me is… what book do I want to write but haven’t?

I’m really not trend-focused when it comes to writing so almost all the books in my back catalog are ‘the’ book. At the time, anyway.

I guess I would write more romantasy. The Game of Gods series really is ‘my current thing’ as far as ‘magnum opus’ goes. I’m diggin’ it.

That and Junco, which was my first series ever, so obviously already written. 

HOWEVER…

IF I COULD WRITE ONE SERIES ALL OVER AGAIN AND EXPERIENCE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AS A WRITER – THEN IT WOULD ABSOLUTELY BE THE ROOK & RONIN SERIES. 🙂 

Everything about that series still interests me. Everything about that time–2013–was the best time ever. And the fact that there are HUNDREDS of you guys who were there when it released STILL HERE, playing along with my Christmas Giveaways, just kind of blows my mind. 🙂

    1. Something I don’t come across often is older couples and pregnancy. Like, the FMC is early 40s and the guy or guys she meets are still wanting kids and maybe she thinks she’ll be too old or not even possible because it never happend before in a previous relationship/marriage, but it ends up happening for them? Or she already has a kid and doesn’t think she can handle another, but he/they talk her into trying? As a woman in her early 40’s myself, I often wonder if I’d be able to go through it again now, so I’d like to read about it!

  2. I’m not sure. I’ve loved all your genre’s and series that i’ve read. My absolute favourite I wish I could read or listen to again for the first time would be the I Am Just Junco series. I found this by accident and absolutely fell in love with it.

Ooooh I would love an enemies to lovers, blue collar hero and regular heroine like a librarian or something but she would be of Asian ethnicity because there’s not many romance novels available with Asian heroines. I always see African American or Latin ethnicities but it’s rare to find an Asian male main character and Asian female main characters.

  14. This may sound crazy but I love a book where He gets taken and has all the bad things happen to him until he is broken but she saves him. She builds him back up and helps him remember who he is. With all the details of what happened. I just haven’t found a book like this.

  18. This is an awesome question. You give your readers such a wide variety already. It would be cool to see maybe a dark academia romance that ties in with biology somehow. But not with 18 year olds. Maybe like almost 30. Or something like that. Love all your work Julie!

  20. Man, there are so many things I could list here. I could continue to bug you for Sunday’s book. I could say I’m ready for more romantasy as well. BUT – and this is because I was just re-reading the ending of Lovely Darkness the other day, and my favorite line in all of your books, “James Fenici shoots Carter Couture a look that says, I still kill people.” It never gets old. Anyway – what I would really LOVE is a continuation of this: “One day though. One day we will meet again.” This story. I’m ready to go back to the Company. Next generation? Whatever it takes to get this story.

  21. I love dark romance and enemies to lovers but I also really love when a human moved to a new town, doesn’t know anything is different there. Turns out it’s a supernatural town. It could be a touch her and die or why choose or both. (I would make an awful writer 🤣 good thing I have always loved reading instead.)

  27. I love your long interconnected series.
    My mind is thinking of some biker romance; maybe along the lines of the Vaughn brothers, maybe throw in a Texas theme; and taking down some drug lord while saving the drug lord’s princess daughter who; while being smart is clearly oblivious to how daddy makes his money. No that won’t work… yeah, I see the trouble you get into.

    See this is why I work with numbers, they make sense to me 🙂

  28. Make you write is so hash but if I could. My fantasy, take an young minded older woman get her abducted by a future race or dare I say alien race. They have the teck to regenerate the aging process to make her young again. Put her on the adventure of a life time. With manly good looking men.

  30. I have not been able to read all of your long list of amazing looking books yet! So I’m not sure if what you’ve already written.

    My favorite tropes/microtropes are:

    Why Choose (3+)
    Enemies-to-lovers
    or
    Strangers-to-lovers
    Dragon shifters
    When HE blushes/virgin MMC
    Angst
    One horse/bed/tent etc
    Forced proximity

    Putting these all together maybe?

  47. I’d love to write a full fledged fantasy. I love reading about magical worlds and these outside the box ideas that my brain could never come up with on its own. If I were to ever sit down and write all the ideas swirling in my head, it would be more along the lines of a dark, emotionally gritty romance.

  50. That’s tough. I’d have suggestions for most authors, but your stories seem to just pour out of you in such unexpected and delightful ways. I know you’re behind those words, writing them, but it doesn’t seem that way from this side of things.
    Ok, what would I like to see? I think another book or series set in/around a kink club could be fun. Tropes – I like hurt/comfort, but it would have to be your way. Gritty, damaged people, morally grey, a touch (or more) of crazy, and some plot points out of left field that I never would have predicted.

  55. That’s a tough one! I’ve read almost everything from you except the “Just Junco” (I know, I know! It’s on the TBR) You are the Queen of twist and turns, so maybe a Pitch Black Thiller. Cause we know you can write spice as well! Whatever it is that you will write next, will be phenomenal regardless!!

  57. I was listening to a podcast about long-distance truck drivers. It seems like an interesting but also terrifying world. (I am old enough to remember when truck drivers were called Knights of the Road.)

    1. My husband used to be a long hual driver, and man it sucked! We found ~intersesting~ ways to keep the romance alive though. Now he’s more regional so he’s home more often thankfully.

  58. I love broken characters. Characters that feel like they aren’t worth anything but when together they heal one another. Those mean more to me than any other. I’m not sure what trope that is, but I’d say a fmc with a broken past, that never feels like she is enough, that has a hard time letting people in. A Mc who had everything then lost most of it and his building himself back up. They run into somewhere unexpected (like a local coffee shop or something) and keep bumping into one other until he finally gets her to agree on a date. She’s pushy and keeps blowing him off but he never gives up until she gives in because he’s so infatuated with her and the way she blows him off so effortlessly. When they do finally go out together she realizes she likes his constantly trying. And decides to really let him in. Something like that. He builds her up and she becomes the version of herself she always wanted to be and never knew how. He realizes that being with her is more than anything in the world. Something like that.

  83. 1. Time travelers: maybe they are hired for the same jobs to assassinate someone and it becomes an enemies to lovers …. maybe they are each other’s hit and they have this attraction and keep pushing each other thru dimensions to keep the hearts from colliding or to keep the other safe. .

    2. Irish or British setting …. a little dark and dirty Bridgerton.

You’ve always written from the heart and I suppose at this point in time, a full autobiography kind of book would be wildly interesting. Your life is never boring (or so it seems) so perhaps something very close to your truth would be fab.

The Rook & Ronin series is what I started with, and it’s a yearly re-read for me, the entire series. Mind melting, super spicy, and when I read-read, I always rediscover or discover parts of it I didn’t pick up on the times before. Genius!!!!

An island of marooned people, naturally all hot and available lol They have lots of time to get to know one another all while trying figure out how to get off said island and find the people that were the cause. They are all deadly in their own way and each have a secret that is worth killing over too. Is one among them really the enemy? If so which one? It should be mysterious, hot and dangerous like always. 😊

A known filthy rich womanizer finally falls in love only to have the tables turned in him by being abducted, abused, used, stripped of all his money, dignity, status then wakes up at the end to find it was all a nightmare. In the end he does right by the all women he scorned but still ends up alone but a better person. Sick huh lol?

    Obviously the characters would meet in a not-so-typical setting – ie – male witnesses something he shouldn’t – she has to rein him in like the boss she is.
    Would be modern day.

I love the world building that you do, there more depth to the story if you’ve read the other books – names mentioned are not just names, but characters with background, even if the books don’t need you to have read previous books.

I love epic romantasy – as a kid I loved reading companion fantasy adventure series so to read steamy adult versions is great, though I don’t think modern versions really capture the epic, companion nature of those original series. The side characters are never as fleshed out as they were in those days with so much attention on the main couple.

    I also love the rejected mate trope, when the person doing the rejected has to do a lot of work to get forgiveness and be with their mate again. The long periods of hate and maybe even jealousy of someone else while they are forced to be in each other’s orbit is delicious!

All the ones that I’ve found that are in first person present tense have so many typos that I swear they haven’t even been to an editor, so again I really can’t stay in them. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing that sexy brogue when I’m reading a Highlander romance. Either contemporary or historical, I’ll take either if only it was first person 😫😫. Pleeeeeaaaasssee🙃🙃

  342. I like darker stories, although I’m really just starting to officially read dark romance. I love damaged characters–the more damaged the better–tatted and pierced. I’ll read pretty much any storyline… at least I haven’t stumbled on anything yet that I won’t read. So none of this really helps you! LOL My favorite trope is forced proximity, and as far as character types, I want a kickass female with a man who lets her do her thing but helps when she absolutely needs it. (Definitely into power exchange relationships.) Also love a bit of the speculative fiction angle as I can’t seem to find a lot of it. I’m excited to read “Sparktopia”! I did try to listen to the audiobook, but I’m one of those folk who just can’t seem to get into audio. I think there’s something wrong with me that way. (I’m relatively new to your books, and my first book by you was 3,2,1 and wow… broke me. More of stuff like that please!)

  378. I am always a sucker of male virgin plots. But like completely not in the know type situation. i.e. the male almost needs to have been removed from normal society somehow. Learning/teaching plot points without the female being in the sex industry or having had ‘so many’ partners herself, just normal experience. I feel there are tons of plots like this where the h is inexperienced and the H “teaches” but very very few well written in the opposite way.

Set it somewhere cozy and atmospheric, like a small snowy town during winter or a sleepy coastal village in the off season.
    I want soft pining, shared beds, accidental confessions, and that moment where they finally realize they weren’t “just friends” at all… and never have been. Make it warm, make it tender, make it queer, and make me obsess over it for weeks.

  443. That’s tough. I think that Romantisy is pretty much my favorite type of storyline right now. I love anything with portals that take you between worlds. I especially dig ones that take you to a different time. I think that’s one of the things I loved the most about Monster’s of Saint Marks. The humor was awesome too!

    I like ones that have historical things in them too…I loved the backdrop from the Sacred Trinity series.

    I also loved the sci-fi stuff (which I wouldn’t think would be my thing) in the Harem series. That series was excellent!!

I love that your troupes stretch the narrative and is never just a troupe… Something I would like to read next, maybe a back to the future type of book where a group of 12 women and 12 men from the current generation travel back in time 120 years and have to try to survive with the knowledge they have to play a game, a survival type game, have to compete to get back to the future… maybe a futuristic game show but to survive they have to be able to function in the past for a month to make it to the next 10 year mark, a year long type show with traits like the dating game/survivor/alone/jeopardy/hunger games/married at first sight… they would get matched prior to the time travel, the will be shipped/sent back 120 years. Each month a couple will either get voted to stay in the current year, have to switch up couples or die by the end of each month before the decade change, With twists of dark romance, taboo situations, lust and second chances…

I feel like there’s two ways for this to go. If it’s a why choose, then the FMC is a patient along with the MMCs. If it’s a single LI story, then one of them could be a patient and the other could be their psychiatrist/psychologist. Of course with the one LI option, they both can be patients as well.

But, of course, her ACTUAL purpose is because she wants to construct her very own “perfect specimen” to bone her… to perfection. Exactly how she imagines it happens to all the able-bodied FMC’s in all the romance books she reads… except she has ZERO knowledge of how the fuck to accomplish her horny hopes and desires. And thus she enrolls in college (even though she’s already graduated with an artsy degree)

    So, it’s at the community college (of course) that she is paired up with a strapping, babe-alert dude to help her with the physical demands of going to school and the individual classes. It’s through these interactions that she’s mentally dissecting him and is (unbeknownst to him b/c he isn’t very bright) planning on using him as her “base/shell,” and life force(or whatever).

    I love reading the books where she becomes unexpectedly pregnant and she finds men to care for her and the baby. I like MC romances because they’re these big looking gruff men who are super sweet and caring. One of those “don’t judge a book by its cover” ordeal.

    This is opposite of real life when it comes to unplanned pregnancy and I love when she and the baby find multiple men who are willing to lay down their lives for a woman and her child, whether it’s biologically theirs or not. It’s super sweet!

I’m still and probably will forever hope for a MMF or MMMF story series which follows the why choose and founf family dynamics longer so that they get kids and the story follows the family’s life until the kids are adults and not just with quick glimpses in the epilogue. Of course the kids experience discrimination due to their family type that could endanger the love and relationship between the characters. Of course the story should also have angst, rivalry, heartbreak, great banter and HEA. In my opinion nobody has written such a story yet and I’m sure you’d do a great job at it.

  538. Sort of a sweet slow burn but with some sort of action adventure aspect. I like not knowing what is going to happen, so you will have to come up with the twists! Nerds always good, M poly relationships also always good, of course it would be narrated by teddy and Jacob, and maybe Jason clarke also

  550. I’d love something why choose, but also horror. Like scream. Everything revolves around the main female character. But she has more than1 love interest. She’s a student. Maybe they are friends at school or the cops on the case. They are all OTT J/P & there’s an enemies to lovers & grumpy x sunshine where the heroine is the grumpy one. Past trauma made her that way maybe.

  562. I would like a book that has a story something like Agatha Christie’s the Mousetrap. It’s got romance, a mystery, a snowed in house cut off from the outside due to the snow, and a twist at the end. I also mysteries entertwined with a light romance set on a ship or a train and the atmosphere of being snowed in or flooded and cut off from the outside.

I want to read a story about a modern woman on a ranch who wants to be left alone but ends up in the middle of a plot with a hot guy who wants to own her and be ridden like a horse for a woman to explore her own sexuality. Male led pregnancy drive with a woman who doesn’t think she will get pregnant due to age and male saying he’s got it covered – he wants kids with her.

It’s nit something I see a whole lot of in the romance books, but it sure is one of the types of relationships that have a lot to overcome and fight to be together and keeping trust, especially from 2 broken people just trying to make it through life.

  611. I’m old school, and now that I am older, I wish I could find books about women like me, in their late 40’s, 50s. They have adult children they have to contend with, but they should have hot sexy, crazy lives too. You don’t die when you hit 45. There are some books out there like that but they are pretty tame. I would love your take on that, any trope, I’m not picky!
