DAY 6 – 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS – 2024 – THE RUMBLE AND THE GLORY

  • December 5, 2024

  • Giveaways, JA Huss

Welcome to my annual 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS!

If you’re new to this – here’s how it works:

1.   Each day from December 1 through December 12 I will put up a new giveaway HERE on my website with instructions on how to enter, a detailed description of the prize, and some stuff about the book or series. Each giveaway is different and each has ONE WINNER. MY GIVEAWAYS ARE ALWAYS OPEN INTERNATIONAL

2.   Each giveaway runs UNTIL DECEMBER 13.

3.   Winners are CHOSEN and NOTIFIED on December 14. I will be notifying winners USING THE EMAIL USED TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG – and all winners will BE LISTED AT THE TOP OF EACH GIVEAWAY POST HERE ON MY WEBSITE on December 14.

4.   Winners have 24 hours to respond, then another winner will be chosen.

5.   ALL PRIZES WILL BE MAILED ON DECEMBER 15.  If I’m waiting on a winner to respond and they miss the December 15 mail date, that prize will be mailed when I get around to it. I live in the middle of nowhere so a trip to the post office is a “thing” for me. 🙂 So make sure you’re checking for winners on the 14th.

6.   I will send newsletters announcing giveaways on December 1, December 6, December 12, and a Winner newsletter on December 14. I NEVER send this many newsletters in a month so sorry if that feels spammy.

7.   You can also FOLLOW MY BLOG. I will also make a blog post HERE announcing ALL WINNERS on the 14th. If you want to follow this blog there will be a form at the bottom of each post to do that. Then you get an email when I POST HERE. I don’t do that often – December is the exception because of the 12 Days and my yearly “Wrap-up” post.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

THAT’S IT! I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THIS!

All prizes this year are self-care gift sets filled with holiday and luxury items, plus a $25 gift card and a signed copy of a a book.

IN EACH POST I WILL HIGHLIGHT A BOOK

TODAY’S BOOK HIGHLIGHT IS THE RUMBLE AND THE GLORY

ANGSTY, TWISTY, SPICY SMALL-TOWN ROMANTIC SUSPENSE

Collin Creed is a killer. But he’s Lowyn’s killer. And after a twelve-year separation, she wants him back.

Deep in the hills of West Virginia, three small towns have found a way to flourish in the face of extreme poverty. Disciple runs a side-show tent revival that brings in millions of dollars a year. Bishop flaunts traditional ways in the vein of Colonial Williamsburg, luring weary city people to the slow-living lifestyle. And Revenant offers them an experience of sin filled with tattooed bikers and live-music dive bars.

It’s a sacred trinity that worships the almighty dollar and everyone plays their role like a well-trained Broadway actor.
But these hills have secrets, and so do the people.

Twelve years ago, when he was just eighteen and dreaming of a future with his high school sweetheart, Collin Creed learned something about himself. Something so disturbing he left Disciple to join the Marines and didn’t once look back. But all that came to a screeching halt with the congressional hearings, forcing Collin to return home and rebuild his black-ops empire brick by brick.

Lowyn McBride’s heart broke when Collin shut her out and left town without an explanation just as they were getting ready to start their adult lives together. The death of her mother the following year was a make-or-break moment and Lowyn rose to the occasion, giving up her university education to parent her younger sister while building an empire of her own as a specialty antiques dealer.

Anger and desire, guilt and shame—the return of the enigmatic Collin Creed ignites the town and sparks an explosion of emotions inside Lowyn. But he’s not the only one with a secret in his past. Lowyn has always played the good girl to Collin’s bad-boy reputation. But it turns out—she’s just like everyone else up in these hills—not as wholesome and pure as she looks.

The Rumble and the Glory is a cinematic and spicy small-town secret, second-chance romance wrapped up in a cloak of mystery and suspense. It honors the themes of found family, redemptive anti-hero, and is filled with bigger-than-life, morally-grey characters against a backdrop of deceit and deception.

TROPES:
Small Town Secrets
Touch Her and Die
He Falls First
Enemies to Lovers
Morally Grey
Found Family
Second Chance
Childhood Sweethearts
Anti-Hero

Although we do tend to cook lamb, beef and a small chicken, and we have a mixture of meats with our roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, roasted parsnips and potatoes, mashed potato and all the vegetables you can think of. If I had to pick something off the plate that’s my favourite it’s probably the roasted veg, or maybe the meats, ahhh, i’m not sure I can decide

My husband is in charge of the Ham each and every year. That’s because he slow roasts that thing for 24 hours before Christmas day lunch, it’s become a staple in our house. The kids love it even now they are older, and now this year they have told their significant others and they literally said they MUST attend lunch for this Ham. I think my poor husband is feeling the pressure! 😂 So it’s not a dish but it’s a very big Ham that slow roasted over time. And it’s moist, melts in your mouth deliciousness. 😋

Made with love ❤️ and a day in the kitchen. But of course there is always the cookies. So many different kinds. But alot of that is the fun made special with all the girls, all together for the day. Very playful. I think alot of it is just making the memories and remembering the memories.

So I look forward to my Moms lemon meringue pie. My sisters homemade noodles. My niece makes the best chocolate chip cookies. Our family does an old family punch recipe. My favorite holiday dish is bread pudding. My grandmother made it, then my mom made it and now I make it. It isn’t like the traditional bread pudding that everyone is used to…. this recipe is more custardy – but I didn’t know of any others growing up. Absolutely the best!

Queen Anne (or Cella’s) chocolate covered cherries. The red tins of Butter Pecan Meltaways from Costco. They are the most delicious cookies and I eat WAY too many of them. We only get them at Christmas. The other thing is a Pecan pie that our next door neighbor makes for Tom every year. And lastly, chocolate covered marshmallows. We always buy the Brachs ones, they come in Santa and Ornament shaped. A must have every holiday season.

I love me some peanut butter blossoms, My family also makes these oatmeal bars that they call “Mock Baby Ruth Bars” (not really sure why as they have nothing to do with the candy bar Baby Ruth’s), but they are also my fav, but I have went to eating these year round when I get a hankering for them. I can hardly pick one but I’ll go with my homemade Scottish Shortbread. You can buy something in the grocery called Scottish Shortbread but it’s not the real deal. The real deal is not too sweet and it’s quite hard. It’s cooked in a sheet pan and cut into squares immediately after exiting the oven because you won’t be able to cut it once it’s cooled. No icing or sprinkles or anything added because it’s perfect just the way it is. I don’t know how it became a Christmas treat but in my house December is when it gets made.

It’s not a dish or a dessert, but it’s my favorite food for the holidays… Lefse…it’s Norwegian soft flat bread made from potatoes. (I have to order it from Wisconsin, because no one makes it anywhere near here.). Spread butter on it and roll it up to eat with your Christmas dinner, or sprinkle cinnamon sugar after buttering and roll up for a treat!

My Grandma E’s hand rolled Povitica. My grandmother has been gone for many years, but she baked over a hundred loaves of this delicious nut bread to give as Christmas gifts for family and friends each year for many, many decades. I treasure Grandma’s handwritten Povitica recipe, and I made a few attempts to keep her tradition alive. Sadly my attempts to reproduce the tasty treat were all massive failures. Luckily, I found a bakery online that makes a loaf very similar to Grandma’s so my few remaining family members and I can still enjoy Povitica every year.

When I was 8 I was deemed old enough to get up a 6am to start the baking that would go on for two days only stopping long enough to fix meals. The early years there were a few tins she would fill for people who visited, but by the time I was 20 and working there were about 20 Christmas tins ready for goodies besides the big tin for us and that year I counted over 1200 cookies. She so loved seeing people smile when they got their tin of cookies. Mom made a special cookie only for us, a round raisin filled open top cookie that she and I loved. So, when the last cookie was out of the oven and the cleaning was done, she an I would share a pot of tea and a few of these delicious cookies. I miss her cookies, but I miss her more. So when I enjoy a spritz or roll out cookie or any other Christmas cookie I think of thousands of cookies, and my mom.

My favorite holiday dessert has to be my grandma’s S cookies. They are not sweet and not frosted. Making them and then sharing them with the remaining family members brings us so many wonderful memories. We usually start with a few memories and then we continue with funny things that grandma would tell us. The best is how grandma would not allow her children to make any letter except S, but once the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along they could make anything they wanted. The cookies are about the memories more than the cookie. Best Memories Ever!!

There’s this one hot dog stand that hires a local baker to make these ginger bread men cookies. They are huge and thin but still soft and just right with a little frosting and just yummy. Turkey covered in cranberry sauce, even if I’m the only one in my family to like turkey (it’s not a common food here in NZ)

Desert is very difficult to choose…I have a massive sweet tooth. But a basic ambrosia (just boysenberries, yogurt and marshmallows), or a black forest gateaux are the first to spring to mind.

My littles don’t like much sweet food, or meat, so their go-tos are cold ham with potatos and plain marshmellows or icecream

My favorite holiday dish is an unusual one because it is not a traditional “holiday dish”. Every year either on Thanksgiving or Christmas I make gumbo. I like only do it once a year because I make it from scratch and it is very time consuming. Gumbo is such a warming comforting I eat it for days at a time. My favorite dessert is Pecan Pie.

For me, its not about the food, specifically, its about who makes the food. For example in my family we have designated dishes people HAVE to make and bring.
I get tasked with the turkey bc mine is always flavorful and juicy.

I have always made my Grandma’s Sour Cream Coffee Cake for eating on Christmas morning. As all of our kids got older and we started having Christmas morning at our own homes I have always made sure my parents had one for themselves also. I make fudge, chocolate pretzels, Grandma’s peanut butter bars, Grandma’s cherry salad (really a dessert), my Aunt’s scalloped pineapple casserole, huge quantities of party mix, and usually try something new (I’ve never been great with pies). If for some reason one of the “regular” items doesn’t get made my father will pout about it for days LOL.

Oh my gosh… I could write a list a mile long, including my favorite holiday savory dishes and sweet desserts. I love food!! From the time I can remember, I had such a passion for eating, cooking, and baking. I had seriously planned on attending culinary school and becoming a chef. However, I was struck down hard with chronic illness and chronic pain in my late 20’s. I’m currently in my mid-50’s. Due to a diagnosis of Celiac Disease around 2004, along with other conditions piling up over the years (other painful G.I. conditions, lots of autoimmune diseases, other chronic diseases, Mast cell activation syndrome, Lyme disease (and co-infections), major food intolerances that have crept up over the years, etc., I haven’t been able to eat or enjoy any of the foods I love so much, let alone holiday foods that I have such fond memories of. Growing up, the holidays were always a huge deal in my family, including major holiday feasts. I loved the holidays so much mostly because there was always lots of cooking and baking involved, and lots of delicious food to enjoy. Unfortunately, in my current state, I’m seriously down to only about six foods my body will tolerate, and none of these are what I would consider delicious. So, yeah, life in general, when it comes to food, is pretty darn hard, but during the holidays, man, it really sucks!!! Even though I can no longer make or enjoy this “holiday dessert”, it’s probably the dessert I most looked forward to enjoying on Christmas (and in the days after, as we always made lots of it). It’s a really simple, easy to make dessert, but it was always my favorite. My mom made this delicious dessert at Christmas time only, and I would always watch and help her out. Once I learned the recipe and could make these on my own (I was fairly young), I took over the job of making these mouth-watering Crème de menthe bars for my family to enjoy… And enjoy we did… We would gorge ourselves on these!!! Everyone in my family loved these. There are lots of variations on this recipe/dessert, but it consists of three layers. The bottom layer is a homemade graham cracker crust (we always added in cocoa powder) that needs to be baked, set aside, and cooled off. Middle layer consists of the best part: a festive, green colored, creamy filling made with crème de menthe liqueur. Once the graham cracker crust is cooled off, this filling is poured over the crust and put into the refrigerator to set. The top and third layer consist of combining melted dark chocolate with melted butter, which is then poured over the crème de menthe liqueur layer, and put back into the refrigerator. Once the top layer of chocolate sets enough, but not too hard to cut through the three layers without the chocolate cracking, it’s pulled from the refrigerator, cut into squares, and put back into the refrigerator. And voilà, the dessert is finished and ready to eat (more like gorge upon). My mouth is seriously watering just thinking about these delicious bars that are so, so simple to make. And just writing this is bringing back so many wonderful memories. From memory, the main ingredients in this dessert are graham crackers, egg, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, crème de menthe liqueur, green food coloring, semisweet and bittersweet chocolate, and lots of butter throughout. So, yeah, I couldn’t eat these if I wanted to (unless I wanted to end up in the emergency room, no thank you). Oh, and did I mention that I’ve been dealing with burning mouth syndrome since my thirties… And that I need to avoid anything with mint or mint flavoring at all costs, because it makes the burning of my tongue and mouth 100% worse? So, this dessert that I loved so much, is completely off limits to me — the minty taste of the crème de menthe liqueur would end up “scalding” my tongue and mouth and setting it on “fire”, and almost every other ingredient in this I can’t have for various reasons. The vanilla extract is about the only “safe” ingredient in this (and it would need to be gluten free). I believe the question prior to this one in the giveaway was regarding what we were looking forward to in 2025… My answer was better health… Things like gluten, dairy, eggs, alcohol, food coloring, sugar, etc., will always be off limits to me, unless there’s a miracle cure for every ailment I have. Although there’s a long list of foods that I haven’t been able to tolerate in years, it’s only been in the last two or so years, that I started reacting to almost all foods, and am down to only about six that I can tolerate. So, I really do hope that I can improve my health situation in 2025 so that I can start adding back in some more foods that I enjoy. Not in a million years, especially back in the day when I had seriously planned on becoming a chef, did I ever imagine that I’d only be able to tolerate and eat six foods. It’s ridiculous!!! Hoping for health improvements in 2025!! 🙏 Thanks again for this opportunity, Julie… It’s an awesome giveaway!! I hope you enjoy lots and lots of delicious Christmas cookies… And I hope you’re able to find some ice cream with Christmas cookies (if not, crumble up some Christmas cookies and sprinkle them over the top of your ice cream or let your ice cream soften up a bit and then mix into it your favorite crumbled up Christmas cookies). Enjoy!!! 🍨 🍪😋 Happy Holidays!! ❤️🎄

I always make Strawberry Pretzel Salad for Christmas and it’s always a hit. Who doesn’t love salty pretzels and sweet strawberries.

THE DANGER IN THE DAMAGE

A soldier searching for redemption.
A man addicted to control.
And the woman caught between them…

Ean Shephard knows trouble when he sees it and Olive Creed is the kind of trouble that can burn his whole world down. As Collin Creed’s baby sister, she’s completely off-limits. But her quiet strength, combined with her sad vulnerability, keeps pulling him closer. Shep came to Edge Security to escape his past, but falling for Olive could ruin his second chance and the fragile peace he’s fought so hard to find.

Brose Sinclair has always played the long game. He and Olive are more than just partners inside the shadow organization they both work for, they’re lovers. His absolute authority keeps her on track and Olive likes it that way. But her sudden attraction to their target threatens everything they’ve worked for and for the first time, Brose finds himself questioning whether control is enough to keep Olive by his side.

Olive Creed has spent her life learning to play her role perfectly. She can’t afford to mess up. Not with Brose watching her every move, looking for mistakes. Mistakes she sometimes makes on purpose just to spur on his titillating punishment. But as she starts to fall for her target and her world begins to crumble beneath her feet, Olive finds herself wondering—which one of these two men would truly be there in her darkest hour?

Brose—the one who owns her mind?

Or Shep—the one who wants her heart?

The Danger in the Damaged is a battlefield of betrayal and control, where loyalty is a weapon and obsession takes no prisoners. It’s a best-friend’s-little-sister romance caught in the crossfire of dark secrets and mind games—and this time, Collin Creed isn’t the one calling the shots.
