  • FREE BOOKS, Giveaways, JA Huss

Welcome to my annual 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS!

If you’re new to this – here’s how it works:

1.   Each day from December 1 through December 12 I will put up a new giveaway HERE on my website with instructions on how to enter, a detailed description of the prize, and some stuff about the book or series. Each giveaway is different and each has ONE WINNER. MY GIVEAWAYS ARE ALWAYS OPEN INTERNATIONAL

2.   Each giveaway runs UNTIL DECEMBER 13.

3.   Winners are CHOSEN and NOTIFIED on December 14. I will be notifying winners USING THE EMAIL USED TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG – and all winners will BE LISTED AT THE TOP OF EACH GIVEAWAY POST HERE ON MY WEBSITE on December 14.

4.   Winners have 24 hours to respond, then another winner will be chosen.

5.   ALL PRIZES WILL BE MAILED ON DECEMBER 15.  If I’m waiting on a winner to respond and they miss the December 15 mail date, that prize will be mailed when I get around to it. I live in the middle of nowhere so a trip to the post office is a “thing” for me. 🙂 So make sure you’re checking for winners on the 14th.

6.   I will send newsletters announcing giveaways on December 1, December 6, December 12, and a Winner newsletter on December 14. I NEVER send this many newsletters in a month so sorry if that feels spammy.

7.   You can also FOLLOW MY BLOG. I will also make a blog post HERE announcing ALL WINNERS on the 14th. If you want to follow this blog there will be a form at the bottom of each post to do that. Then you get an email when I POST HERE. I don’t do that often – December is the exception because of the 12 Days and my yearly “Wrap-up” post.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

THAT’S IT! I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THIS!

All prizes this year are self-care book boxes filled with holiday and luxury items

DESCRIPTION

Collin built a kill team. Lowyn built an empire.

Twelve years after breaking her heart, he’s back for a fresh start—and a second chance.

But Lowyn isn’t the good girl he left behind.

Old sins rise, secrets burn, and this small town’s revival is ready to blow.

Love this dangerous always leaves a mark.

Enemies-to-Lovers meets Touch-Her-and-Die.

Twelve years ago, when he was just eighteen and dreaming of a future with his high school sweetheart, Collin Creed learned something about himself. Something so disturbing he left Disciple to join the Marines and didn’t once look back. But all that came to a screeching halt with the congressional hearings, forcing Collin to return home and rebuild his black-ops empire brick by brick.

Lowyn McBride’s heart broke when Collin shut her out and left town without an explanation just as they were getting ready to start their adult lives together. The death of her mother the following year was a make-or-break moment and Lowyn rose to the occasion, giving up her university education to parent her younger sister while building an empire of her own as a specialty antiques dealer.

Anger and desire, guilt and shame—the return of the enigmatic Collin Creed ignites the town and sparks an explosion of emotions inside Lowyn. But he’s not the only one with a secret in his past. Lowyn has always played the good girl to Collin’s bad-boy reputation. But it turns out—she’s just like everyone else up in these hills—not as wholesome and pure as she looks.

The Rumble and the Glory is a cinematic and spicy small-town secret, second-chance romance wrapped up in a cloak of mystery and suspense. It honors the themes of found family, redemptive anti-hero, and is filled with bigger-than-life, morally-grey characters against a backdrop of deceit and deception.

Inside the pages you’ll find…

Spicy Second Chance
Small Town Secrets
Touch Her and Die
He Falls First
Enemies to Lovers
Morally Grey
Found Family
Second Chance
Childhood Sweethearts
Anti-Hero

MY ANSWER

I have to be honest here, I am a VERY picky reader. If I get 3/4 of the way through a book, that’s like a 4.5 for me. lol. I almost NEVER finish a book. I get bored. So if I finish a book, it’s a 5. Even if I have issues with it. If I flip that last page, it’s a 5. If an author can get me all the way to the end, they deserve all those stars. I almost always chuck a book into the DNF pile at chapter 2.

I just have very specific taste in what kind of book I like. It’s got to have a pretty near-perfect premise for me to even consider reading it. And it doesn’t matter what genre it is – I like a good domestic thriller with a great narrator just as much as a speculative fantasy based on the Roman Empire (I’m lookin’ at you, The Will of the Many).

I’m not looking for tropes, I’m looking for an experience. And if it’s EXTRA DARK, it gets EXTRA STARS!

Oh man, this is a hard one!

My favorite trope is romantasy, hurt comfort probably. As someone with a chronic illness, the idea of someone taking care of me just hits all of the checkboxes.

I love all of your series, and especially this one!

I like all different kinds of books. Sometimes thriller and other times spicy. I try to mix it up because I’m always reading more than one book at a time and dont want them to be too similar that I forget who the characters are.

I love many different types of books, really depends on the mood I’m in. I can go anywhere from a soft, fluffy, YA type book to a dark, twisted, and gorey Thriller, that definitely makes people question my mental stability 😅. What I love most is a good story and good writing, you got that and I’ll love it.

I have dnf’d so many books this year. I just get bored to. I like to escape and enter the world I am reading. I am a vibe reader who is also moody. Sometimes I like dark and gritty and then sometimes I am over the sexy times and switch to YA for a couple of books. Basically if the story is good I dont care about the genre or type.

To be honest, I will read almost anything. Different phases of my life I’ve been more into different things, started off with horror from my early teens (books I definitley should not have read) through to early 20’s. 20’s to late 30’s was more paranormal and 30’s to now (late 40’s) has been more romantasy and distopian-ish reads but, I’ve read historical, religious fiction, romance, romantasy, sci-fi, dark romance, fantasy, pretty much most genres but, as long as the book hooks me, I will read it. Also, I’m a cover reader so the cover of the book has to catch me, even if it’s a 5* book with reviews, the cover has to have something which catches me before I’ll read it. My go-to currently is more the romantasy type but there’s not many genre’s I won’t try

My fav is an extra spicy romantacy. Not sure what my problem is, but if there isn’t a spicy scene brewing in the first several chapters I’ll get bored of it, even when the story itself intrigues me. But I also want a decent story, not only spicy scenes. It’s kinda hard to find that right balance.

Urban fantasy is my favorite, all those fantastical elements in a modern-ish city, magic, different races, monsters, maybe a hint of slow burn romance, with some humor and a great plot to carry the story and I’m sold, consider me invested.

I like anything romantic and dark! So dark romance and all it entails, paranormal romance, fantasy romance. Though I am not gonna be hooked unless there’s some trauma worthy action.

My books come with trigger warnings, likely because my life has been an array of TWs too. At least in a book it’s a safe space.

Of course some more than others. Honestly just a good captivating story line, I’ll read fantasy, thriller, mystery, dark dark romance, if it’s a good story I am in. I always like a little romance and/or spice thrown in too for good measure.

I’m not super picky. I’m a voracious reader and go through four or five books a week. I have only had a few DNF-Zodiac Academy primary among them. I am usually reading a non-fiction, a regular fiction, and spicy book at the same time. Right now I am reading the Code of the West, re-reading the Disruption Trilogy, and reading (listening) to Brimstone.

I’ve been on a dark romance kick for a while. Lots of trigger warnings and not really uplifting at all. (Under Your Scars was brutal over the weekend). I’ll read a rom com as palate cleansers and I’ll put romantasy in between as well. The Sacred Trinity series is just right in the midst of all of those. I mostly listen to audio books because my eye sight is not what it used to be to be and reading gives me headaches. So a good narrator makes all the difference for me.

I will read just about anything. But My go to usually needs some paranormal, magic fantasy. I went through Heavens Dark Soldiers by Steve Gilmore super fast. Doesn’t have to be “romance” so much as I need something going on in my books Other than their relationship.. I actually miss when “Dark” meant like blood and gore or horror in the story Not the relationship LOL.. Don’t get me wrong I like some red flag relationship books like Amelia Hutchins Legacy of the nine realms. But there is a awesome story mixed in to figure out. It’s more relationship comes close second to the story. I love those. I am 50 December 8th. I am bored of the whole mafia/billionaire been there most likely read it hundreds of times. Kind of can’t avoid the feeling of guessing everything that’s going to happen. So yeah gotta have my fantasy. At least I can use my imagination more. Gotta get out of my head it’s ugly in there. Menapause depression is the devil.
And Huss books are not predictable LOVE them.

My favorite types of books are definately the dark romance ones. Its got to have a really good storyline though and i like the menage ones as well. Im hoping for a hea at the end but my one big issue is if the narration doesnt have good readers, i can not keep listening to it. I delete it completely. Julie has spoiled me totally because her narrators all have been spot on for me. One more pet peve for me too is if the characters description given in the book doesnt match the photo on the cover. I really love Julies cover photos and her narrators which is why i love her books so much better than most out there. You really do do an awesome job Julie Huss 🖤❤️🖤❤️

It’s not the genre or trope for me it’s a story that can keep me from predicting what will happen. It has to be well written and the spice needs to add to the story not just be spice for the sake of spice. I love anything from fantasy, paranormal, mystery, action, morally gray to dark. It just has to be categorized as romance. I want to escape the world in my reading by choice. I rarely watch tv and am 95% an audiobook girl. My last requirement is the FMC cannot be a whiny, whimp of a woman. I want my FMC to be as kick ass as the MMC or I will DNF.

First and foremost, a story has to be plausible. I read a ton of contemporary romance, and the major trope for a long time was second chance romance. BUT for me, a large part of the time, the reason the two characters split up was weak and made no sense to me. For instance, the guy leaves to pursue a musical career or a sports career so they break up. Why? Why did they need to break up? Nope. Doesn’t work for me. My jam right now is small town, single parent, romantic suspense reads. I’m also digging the “he falls first” because let’s face it, it’s usually always the woman. The other thing that drives me absolutely CRAZY is when the two characters are not together for whatever weak reason, and she stays celibate while he manwhores all over the place, but he’s secretly still in love with her. Nope, fuck that, it makes me ragey. Especially if they get back together and all those women he manwhored around with are still in the picture and throw it in the FMC’s face that they all slept with her man. Just no.

I really like a dark, spicy dub-con tale in a fantasy world world where the FMC discovers her hidden power/talent. A good twisted plot with a definite villan or evil organization. There has to be a lot of friction initially, and after they (1 or more guys) are together, i do NOT want the guys to be gross sweet and fawning all over her. And I also love to watch her character develop. I want to read about somewhat introverted or submissive women.

If you write it, I will read it! I also have other favorite authors who I will read anything they write as well. I’m always looking for new favorites. I’m an audiobook addict and listen to over 500 books a year (probably a whole lot more than that if I count the multiple times I listen to the same book). I think my favorites are contemporary romance and erotica. Specific tropes are not as important to me as a good story. I like it when the author gives the character a real personality. That can take a paragraph, a chapter or half the book depending on the author or story. As long as they have a good story, I am patient. I also enjoy a series where the most aweful guy in Book 1 becomes my favorite hero by book 4-8 (F@$king Ford). If you keep writing, I’ll keep reading!

I am a very picky reader too. I am not picky about the tropes, I have read everything from fantasy, to sci-fi to even some historical fiction. I do have a lot of not Gunna finish this book piles even if it’s 3 books into a series. If the author loses my Intreat or it feels like the book is in a loop and it gets repetitive I’m on to something else. So I don’t really have a favorite type of I have to give an answer I’d say possible Fantasy/Fiction. 🤷

I love your thoughts process for giving 5 stars on a book. For me, I do not have a preference really. Sometimes I want thr dark stuff, sometimes I want the light stuff. But in the end what I really want is the good story line to go with it. That’s the important part. I have only DNFd one book and it was kind if like a self help book and the lady basically said women are nothing, men are everything so stop complaining. I couldn’t read it. I will push myself through a book to finish. The more the struggle to get through, the less stars but I rarely do less than 3 because all the work that web into creating that book. But if I finished the book and enjoyed it it’s a 5 star. So most books for me are 5 star. Rarely are they anything else.

If it has a good story line but I don’t like the voices that are narrating I am out. Also, once I find an author I like I will go back and find every book by that author. A 7ft tall Faery man coming through a magic portal in a forest to take her away to a magical realm to be his eternal mate, I live for those romantasys and paranormal romances!! The mafia and dark romance filled to the brim with with extra spicy smut that would make most women blush, it’s what lines my book shelves and my TBR piles. I even love the historical romance and the Rom-Com, because I love a good laugh, and to read about traveling to the 1600s to be ravished by an Irishman.

Dark and spicy. I like to feel emotional (tears). That might sound weird but I don’t often cry so if you make me cry that’s right up my alley. Not a cheap someone is going to die kind. A deeper level of emotion that the female lead feels. Wow I feel like I just had a therapy session lol!

For me it just depends. I really enjoy a book that fucks with your head and makes you think about things in a new way. I love all of the psy-op stuff you put in your books. Most of my books are either urban fantasy romance, or dark romance. I also really like a good MC or Mafia/gang series. I definitely prefer larger series. Once I find a world I enjoy, I want to stay in it to learn as much as possible as long as I can.

Hockey Romance that actually contains hockey games/play/scenes and not just a character who is a hockey player. (This goes for all books labeled sports ROMANCE. Hockey is just my favorite. MMA/fighting being a close second.)

Mystery/suspense/military hero (or any other hero type romance…mountain rescue, cowboy etc) BUT not necessarily insta-love plot.

Morally grey heros but not BDSM or SA/SH/controlling of actual women. More morally grey on how they handle the law/ dole out consequences/ do business.

Fantasy that is well developed that also includes romance.

All of the above, I prefer dual first person POV. I really really really dislike romance told from 3rd person (Will almost always skip a book if it is 3rd person).

So I was into dark bullying hs/college w grey MCs last (iirc) — certainly I was into that for a while — but I’ve recently been into more fairytale bks w adventure, scheming, fighting and slow burn romance (as I recently reread the Captive Prince Trilogy) and then discovered it had fanfiction! I like a well-written and edited book and can read just about anything if it fits my mood and is written well. I love rivals to lovers, but I’m really not a picky reader. I do have to be in the mood for certain books….like I read Six of Crows recently and didn’t like it as much because I wasn’t in the right mindset for it, but likely wouldn’t pick it back up if I didn’t finish it then.

It is easier for me to list genres that I don’t read— horror and sci-fi. I read everything else. I do give books until chapter 4 before I decide that it is a DNF. Cookbooks and travel books I will skip around, but I do read chocolate candy, cake, cookie cookbooks cover to cover.

I like twisty, unpredictable, stuff. Sometimes romantasy, or dark, sometimes laugh out loud funny, or angst. I’m happy to read all sorts. And maybe I should be a little more like you and quit the dull books – I’m not good at not finishing a book. Or in my current case, I’m on book 3. Book one was ok, book 2 was tedious and repetitive, and book 3 has looked up a little, but it’s predictable- I can’t wait to finish it and be done. I’m over this series. But I have your latest book lined up next and then the next one is on pre order, so things are looking up.

The book where the words jump off the page, suck you in, you believe, you love/hate the characters as the author intended, where you find the unexpected, the plot is not obvious because there are layers, the pages keep turning long after your reading time should be over and you want more. More, more, more. The reading slows as the last few pages approach because you don’t want to finish and leave that world, that life.
Oh, genre you say….um, can’t put a label, the books call and I read.
Do enjoy other world, mcc, romance, the odd billionaire, spicy

As long as the book has good writing, I’m there for it. I do love spice, but some books have more spice than plot and that gets very old very fast. I need a book that will drag me into the pages and not let go. That’s why I love your books, they’re the perfect amount of spice with awesome storylines.

Right now, I’ve jumped full-force into Romantasy and can’t find my way out! I also lean toward dark, but not midnight-black dark; I guess sorta charcoal-grey dark? lol Like JA, I also have pretty specific and exacting reading tastes, regardless of genre. I’ll read any level of spice, but to be honest if the author can share the emotion I don’t need the spice written on the page. Sometimes I find I have to flip through pages of spice to continue with the story.

If it’s a found family scenario–interconnected standalones in a series–even better. And I love nothing better than a really good zinger that makes me laugh out of nowhere in the middle of the night, so much so that if it wakes The One up and I have to read it to him to share the giggle, that’s the absolute best. A mystery to solve is like icing on the cake. And of course, it’s gotta be spicy!

My tastes vary depending on my mood and mental health. I read everything from Thriller to sci-fi, to romance to very dark romance. I have only 2 triggers that I have identified as hard No’s for me, so that opens things up a lot.

I usually finish a book/audiobook. When it comes to audiobooks, if the story is good, but the narrator is ruining it, changing the speed will usually get me through it. As for digital/paperbacks, I try to power through. There are very few truly terrible books that have been dnf’s for me. I can usually find something I like about it. Powering through a book that initially seemed bad has paid off more than once for me.

That being said, I am happy to have read a book that I feel was at least 3.5/5. Anything 4 and up usually gets labeled as a “comfort” books and will be read over and over when I need the ‘feels” that it elicites.

Especially psychological thrillers and all types of romance. If it’s romance though there cannot be any cheating or I chuck it out the window. If I’m really into a book, invested in the story but not fully satisfied when it ends I will spend days, weeks even, continuing the story in my imagination until it feels satisfying to me.

Is it romance? Great sign me up, I am not picky at all and love everything, I’m here for the vibes! Small town paranormal romance with a mafia boss who’s an alien cowboy hockey star and she’s a big city girl who’s moving away from her crazy ex and going to run a small coffee plant bookstore – amazing! I love it!! But also can they be die hard enemies and maybe he stalks her while wearing a mask and he falls first?!

I’m mostly dark mafia stories, I like the forced proximity and intrigue that goes along with the plot and actually makes me feel like I’m there and know these people. A book that draws me in almost instantly and keeps me there until the end. I like the danger and heat and the forbidden. I do like other books as well, as long as they stay true to the blurb on the back. I do, however, feel guilty for not finishing a book, don’t really know why…

Ugg – I don’t have a favorite kind of book … I read a lot of different things, but what I do like is being agitated as I read. If I have to double back, all the better. If it’s a romantic comedy, I still want to be agitated. I want to feel the characters and I don’t want to be able to predict the story. I don’t need HEAs, marriage, babies … in fact, I wish more romance books were written with a sad ending or a cliffhanger with no sequel … character disappears, dies in a car accident or just chooses someone else after mindblowing sex would be different for a change. Aside from that, I like twists, kink, dark and dirty, captivity, virginity, multiple partners as long as it isn’t sappy, foreign accents, scenes with sex toys, true enemies/hate scenes where the character wants the other one gone or away because they truly grate each other’s nerves – in fact I love it when they play tricks on each other or do mean things to each other, embarrassment and major screw ups also peek my interest. If the build up of a book pushes the strong guy/protector/cop/Navy Seal/etc – then I better have some real edge of the cushion scenes where a person’s life is truly hanging by a thread if he/she doesn’t get there and do some serious damage. Too many books boast the muscle and then never deliver and it makes me want to throat punch the author for failing to stay focused! WTF – watch a few movies for some inspiration. Jealousy, cheating … not so much – it doesn’t appeal to me. And I despise rushed endings on a good story … First impressions only happen once so like Julie said – the first 2 chapters better hook me, but just as real is that if you rush the ending, it will be the last thing I have on my mind as I right my review.

My hero I prefer to be morally grey and I love a good not so innocent heroine that I can relate to on some level. Whether she’s pining for her boyfriend’s brother who is forbidden or her stepbrother that she just met or even her teacher or just the boy next door that has been her best friend since diapers. Or if the school bad boy has taken an interest in her we still have to have a good back story to draw me completely in.

Extra spicy but has to have a really good storyline. If the book doesn’t grab me I might DNF and I hate doing that. A pet peeve though if the HEA is not extensive and not doing the whole book justice. Can’t stand all the angst and no revelling in their joy. Been burnt a few times with feeling impotent with an ending. Hate that.

My favorites are RH and the spicier the better but it has to have a good storyline behind it. PR is also a favorite, I love all those shifters, vampires 🧛‍♂️ and 🧙 magical beings & beasts 🐉! There are two exceptions 1 The Mitford Series by Jan Karon……so good, small town, lovely characters, absolutely no spice or paranormal. 2 loved Harry Potter!! Yes it is paranormal and has magical beasts galore but also no spice at all!
What do you call a book that’s not even “cozy” or “closed door” anyway??

But I love unpredictable stories with plot twists that don’t resolve in the first 5 chapters. I’m currently under the spell of dark romance and that includes any mafia, hitman or monster romance.

The next day I want something darker, maybe involving the mafia or Bratva.
Sometimes I want something completely different.
Vigilante Romance or just straight Vigilantes hunting down their prey.
Sometimes I want a Thriller, with a villain as the protagonist.

My favourite books to read are audiobooks. My favourite books depend on the mood I’m in. Some it’s an easy breezy rom com especially if life is chaotic. I’ve often enjoyed psychological thriller/suspense for as long as I can remember until COVID. As a Nurse at that time I needed all fluff and happy endings but I’m back into them now and enjoying them. I’m not much of a fantasy romance gal but having said that, if you write it, I read it.

My favorite kind of books to read aren’t just ones that draw me into their world, they make me want to be a part of it. Vic is Vicious was that for me. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of the Vaughn family? The Filthy Junkyard series by Liza Street, New Carnegie Androids by Roxie McClaine and Spider Mates trilogy by Tiffany Roberts. There’s a common thread throughout all of them, family, found or otherwise. Found family is a huge draw for me, maybe because it felt like forever until I found my own. Knowing someone always has your back, takes you in or kicks you out for whichever you need and is there to lift you out of the darkest places is what draws me to a book. Everything else is just gravy.

I mark it finished and move on to the next. The worst part is that I am a sucker for series books, which as you can imagine a waste of money too. Luckly, I have not had that problem with any of your book series. I have enjoyed a great number of your books, I do admit some are too dark and I have to read/listen to rom com next in order to get my mind in a good place again. Small town, middle of nowhere. Spicy but not extra spicy. I like a love triangle trying to work out who they will end up with. Better if they are friends so there’s the question of will there be betrayal.

I love all kinds of tropes. My favorites to read or that I read the most are Reverse harem and why choose contemporary romance, dark romance. I love a really good enemies to lovers. Second chances are also a love of mine. And I know its not widely popular but I love surprise pregnancy and hidden children stories too. I love reading so Im pretty open to anything and everything as long as there is major spice and smut.

I am 100% a mood reader, but if im not hooked in the first 3 chapters, I’m gonna put it down. If I make it halfway through and I hate everybody, I’m gonna put it down. I love rom-coms, small town romance, cowboy, romantic suspense/thriller, speculative, horror, and lots of Manga and graphic novels.

What a question!! I want to read about love, passion, romance, and attraction and I’m not too picky about where I find it… I’m a sucker for forced proximity, one bed, and faking tropes… I love to laugh but lately I find myself gravitating to the dark side

My go to genres are typically dark romance or romantasy. If it’s anything else it’s either because it was highly recommended to me or because I already love that particular author. I’m trying to be better about branching out, but my brain likes to torture my heart… so the more emotional the better.

Game of Gods

GODSLAYER

Spark is light.
Spark is power.
Spark is deadly.

Tyse never asked to play the Game of Gods, but Delta demands loyalty.

With Clara at his side, Tyse is thrust into a brutal world of augments—humans forged to serve and destroy. Each step forward pushes them closer to becoming something more—a force Clara can feel but doesn’t fully understand. A future that terrifies her as much as it draws her in.

Day by day, the man Clara pledged her loyalty to becomes more and more a stranger. But in the Game of Gods, survival demands sacrifice.

Clara has already done that once—she’s certain she can do it again.

Jasina and Finn left Tau City in ruins, vowing to end the Extractions by destroying every god’s tower. But the train line hides dark truths. Forgotten people cling to survival. Towers rise from the ruins of erased cities. And deep in the shadows, a godlike AI watches, weaving its own agenda.

Jasina has always been the strong one, the leader. But the train line holds secrets that cut deeper than she’s prepared for. Truths about spark. About the gods. About herself.

And Finn—the man burdened by his failures—is rising to find his strength.

But can Jasina ever fully trust him?

Godslayer is an epic, spicy, and angst-filled Romantasy that begs the question … how well do you really know your God? And how much are you willing to sacrifice to save him?
