  • Giveaways, JA Huss

Welcome to my annual 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS!

If you’re new to this – here’s how it works:

1.   Each day from December 1 through December 12 I will put up a new giveaway HERE on my website with instructions on how to enter, a detailed description of the prize, and some stuff about the book or series. Each giveaway is different and each has ONE WINNER. MY GIVEAWAYS ARE ALWAYS OPEN INTERNATIONAL

2.   Each giveaway runs UNTIL DECEMBER 13.

3.   Winners are CHOSEN and NOTIFIED on December 14. I will be notifying winners USING THE EMAIL USED TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG – and all winners will BE LISTED AT THE TOP OF EACH GIVEAWAY POST HERE ON MY WEBSITE on December 14.

4.   Winners have 24 hours to respond, then another winner will be chosen.

5.   ALL PRIZES WILL BE MAILED ON DECEMBER 15.  If I’m waiting on a winner to respond and they miss the December 15 mail date, that prize will be mailed when I get around to it. I live in the middle of nowhere so a trip to the post office is a “thing” for me. 🙂 So make sure you’re checking for winners on the 14th.

6.   I will send newsletters announcing giveaways on December 1, December 6, December 12, and a Winner newsletter on December 14. I NEVER send this many newsletters in a month so sorry if that feels spammy.

7.   You can also FOLLOW MY BLOG. I will also make a blog post HERE announcing ALL WINNERS on the 14th. If you want to follow this blog there will be a form at the bottom of each post to do that. Then you get an email when I POST HERE. I don’t do that often – December is the exception because of the 12 Days and my yearly “Wrap-up” post.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

THAT’S IT! I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THIS!

All prizes this year are self-care gift sets filled with holiday and luxury items, plus a $25 gift card and a signed copy of a a book.

TODAY’S BOOK HIGHLIGHT IS THE MISTERS

THE ALPHA-ASSHOLE DONE TO PERFECTION (FOR THE WHOLE SERIES!) 🙂

THERE’S A MISTER FOR EVERYONE…

Mr. Perfect

He is SO Alpha! Ellie is the “celebrity concierge” at Stonewall Entertainment. She’s good at it. On most days. Just not the day her new boss, McAllister Stonewall, shows up and catches her secretly sexting in his debut executive meeting.

Mr. Romantic

He’s SO DARK! Ivy is the “preacher’s daughter” and she’s desperate for a job when a sweet opportunity comes in from the infamous Mr. Romantic. Nolan Delaney might be deliciously hot, but he’s got a dark side lurking under that charm.

Mr. Corporate

He’s SO Prince Charming! West wants a girl who needs him and Victoria can handle things just fine on her own, thank you. But now that West is back, so are all her old secrets. Like it or not, she might need him to save her.

Mr. Mysterious

He’s SO Off Limits! Cindy does not give a crap about the best-friend’s-little-sister rule. She wants Mr. Mysterious all to herself. He’s dangerous, and moody, and probably shouldn’t be drinking whiskey for breakfast. But lucky him—she’s willing to be his partner. Everyone needs a team, right? She’s not afraid of a little scandal

Mr. Match

He’s SO Right For Me! Katya is a girl with secrets.  Is she a Russian spy? A liar? Or just a lost girl who fell in love with the “right” wrong man? Meeting Mr. Match four years ago changed her whole life. Who knew fate would intervene just when all hope was lost? But she should’ve known better. She doesn’t deserve him.

Mr. Five

He’s SO Not Getting Away! Rory and Five were best friends, childhood sweethearts, and the definition of soul mates. Nothing could ever come between them. Except Five thinks she’s better off without him. But Rory Shrike wants her man back. And not even the genius brain of Mr. Five will stop her.

Mr. & Mrs

Is it the wedding of the century? Or a disaster in the making? All the Misters are gathered together on Five’s island paradise for the most outrageous wedding ever!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ROMANCE TROPE?

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME COMMENTING ON THE BLOG IT HAS TO BE APPROVED. SO DON’T WORRY IF IT DOESN’T SHOW UP RIGHT AWAY.

MY ANSWER

I have to be honest, I don’t read romance unless it’s in a Sci-Fi book as a side story. I’m really just a sci-fi reader. But I do like the romantic subplot and my favorite trope is WHO DID THIS TO YOU. I don’t know why, but I love that whole ‘protection’ thing. Or when the guy gets pay-backs for his heroine. Love that too.

I like ENEMIES TO LOVERS, FRIENDS TO LOVERS, and RIDE OR DIE too- but Ride or Die ONLY if it’s a couple–maybe a trio–BUT NOT A TEAM. I really hate the ‘team’ books. I will rarely, if ever, read a book about a ‘team’ of characters. Mostly I prefer first-person stories, so if all the characters have a first-person POV, I will give it a try. But what I really like is THE LONER and IT HAS TO BE A GUY.

I’m VERY picky about books. 🙂 (Aren’t we all?)

When I first started reading romance, the second chance romance was the biggest trope at the time, and 9 times out of 10, I hated the reason the couple broke up or were parted for however long. The reason they were apart was always SO weak, like you really couldn’t communicate or find each other in all those years? Nope, I never bought it. AND a secondary thing that pissed me off in those books was how the guy was always a total manwhore and screwed tons of women, but when he would find out that some guy was interested in her now – because she was celibate the whole time they were apart – he would go all caveman and be a jealous ass. And write off all those other women as “just sex, it didn’t mean anything”. LOL My current favorite trope seems to be small town, single parent, romantic suspense. I love the mystery/thriller genre and trying to figure out who the culprit is that is doing whatever is going on. Found family is another big one for me, I love a good found family story.

Since I read almost any romance, it’s easier to say what I don’t look forward to is enemies to lovers. So many of the authors I follow have been doing that trope for so long that I’m disappointed when I learn it’s the trope of the next book. It’s hard to pass on the books when they are favorite authors though. I’ve been skipping some of them lately. From dark to romcom … it’s a popular trope.

(Although if written well, it can elude to such matters and be just as spicy.) And I’m in a whychoose phase (don’t recall if I said that last yr) but it’s definitely true this yr. OTOH, I never turn down a well written romance either MF or MM.

I recently had a recommendation for a why choose; and there were 10 guys. I can’t even fathom that; 2 or 3 guys and a girl, hot yes, but when it’s a whole baseball team with one girl it gets a big ridiculous.

I think my favorite trope would have to be enemies to lovers. It is a super versatile trope that works across a variety of novels, but I also feel like it has the ability to go off the rails very quickly. Ex. If the FMC is too bratty or immature it makes it hard to relate, or when she purposefully miscommunicates or withholds information despite inner monologue saying that she knows better or that this is detrimental.

Forced proximity is my #1, especially with first person dual POV, but I have so many favorite tropes.
Now, because of a vision disease, I have almost 100% moved to audio books.
I also like first dual first person and dual narrators there. Narrators make audiobooks for me. Your narration is always on pointe. The Rook and Ronin Omnibus was my first book and audiobook where I discovered you, about 8-ish years ago.💜

I really enjoy all kinds of genre and I can say I have read a series of yours I haven’t enjoyed. I love the enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, couples, even trios and the dark romances. Your latest Sacred Trinity and Sparktopia I really enjoyed. As I have almost listened my way through most of your titles in the last 18 months, I think my New Year’s resolution should be to delve into the sci-fi genre a bit more.

Your selection of cast really make your books a joy to listen to regardless of the genre. They are very good at drawing in the reader and having you sit on the edge of your seat waiting for what is next to happen.

I like the enemies to lovers. The tension between the h/h and the build up. I love when both h/h are strong characters but the guy still has a protective nature. I’ve been reading a lot of mafia romance lately.

I think the enemies to sweethearts trope might be my favorite. I like ones where there is a WWII spy thriller type story and one of the pair thinks the other is working for the enemy. It’s only later on that they realize the person was working undercover for their side of the war effort, and then it all works out for the happy couple.

Man, this is a hard one to pick just one. I like romance and books so if it is a well written story that has great depth and character development, then it doesn’t matter what trope it is. I do like enemies to lovers because emotions run high. Friends to lovers sometimes lacks this passion because the characters already know each other too well.

My favorite tropes are forced proximity, grumpy sunshine and he falls first. Forced proximity forces the couple to face their feelings and also their issues that need to be resolved. It also allows allows the couple to let their guard down and just be themselves without any outside interference. Grumpy / Sunshine lets the Grumpy lighten up and relax around their sweetheart and the Sunshine has that special feeling of knowing that you’re the only one who can make your Grumpy smile. I love he falls first because he has to work so hard whether to relieve insecurities, or argue reasons not to be together or protect the woman he’s fallen in love with. He falls first will usually do anything for the woman that he loves and who wouldn’t want that?

If I had to pick it would be reverse harem, forced proximity and all along those lines. I love a gritty, suspense, plot twist, mystery, blow your mind kind of story. But really the only thing I don’t like is when FMC’s are too whiny/ insecure and they go on and on about how their feelings were hurt or were wronged. I don’t need G I Jane but get over it for Christ’s sake!

I have been in a touch her and d!e phase lately. Mafia, MC, stalker, alien abduction, possessive, but not controlling heroes, etc. Okay, maybe slightly controlling, but not in a permanently harmful way to our heroine, and mostly in the bedroom. My all-time favorites are more in the sci-fi realm though. I love Anne McCaffrey, an oldie but goodie. She has a great mix of sci-fi and fantasy in her stories. Also, Anna Carven and her Kordolian warriors. I get both sc-fi and touch her and d!e, with some super sexy, indestructible, possessive alien warriors.

If I had to pick a trope, it would probably have to be when the millionaire figures out the “common” girl with the attitude is the one he can’t walk away from. That said, what I really look for more than anything is a good mysterious, intriguing story that you can get lost in and books with humor that have me laughing throughout it. There just really has to be some creative story telling.

The female characters must have a brain and a backbone & know how to ask the question they’re wondering about. Those stupid angsty books where no one communicates with the other until the very end of the book, get sent right to the trash pile. — I hate those!!

Whether it’s a soldier protecting someone in danger or two skilled operatives navigating missions while falling for each other, the blend of danger and devotion keeps me hooked. In general, I like any romance that has a storyline. I’m not gonna lie and say I don’t appreciate a good mafia, bad boy. If we are talking about Christmas, in particular, you know, I just want some love and a lot of sex.

As a reader I am not really picky, and I dont have a fav, but I really like forbidden romance, and I like enemies to lovers. I also like twisted and dark with a bit of mystery. I like my brain tries to work it out, and then I am all shocked. even though I shouldn’t be shocked, or I am very rightfully so shocked. I have also learned that fictional me is ok with WAY more than IRL me would ever be. IE: *Me to my fictional bestie:* “Oh your are in love with the massive stalker who murder’s people for fun. YOU GET IT GURL” *IRL me to my IRL bestie*: she wants to meet someone that she meet online: “OK; but make sure that you share your location with me, I will stalk you the entire night, tell me which VERY PUBLIC SUPER BUSY restaurant you will be going to; and text me when you leave, and take 4 different ways before you go home to make sure that you are NOT followed. WHATEVER YOU DO, do NOT have a drink, and do NOT go to a private place with him!”

I prefer 1st person POV and alternating character POV chapters. I love dark romance especially with serial unalivers. Im a big fan of enemies to lovers, small town romance, and a touch of taboo. I love MF, MFM, MMF and why choose. I am picky about my why choose, I need well developed characters and a good plot.

I love possessive and domineering male leads but the females can’t be complete wimps. I enjoy multi book series’ that give each of a circle of characters a book each. I do mostly audio and mostly MM, and I always answer this question with hurt/comfort. But I love your books and they don’t really keep with that, so… ?
Your books tickle my brain, and that’s sexy AF, no matter the tropes.

Romances are best if there’s a mystery. I love gothic romance types like the governess and the brooding master of the house and maybe a ghost or two.

As long as the story is well written, and the narrators are good (being sick and in chronic pain, it’s much easier for me to listen to books), I enjoy lots of different tropes in the romance genre: Age gap, Taboo — Boss/Employee, Teacher/Student (Eighteen definitely falls into this category. This was one of the first books I ever listened to when I joined Audible and it was my first ever JA Huss book… It absolutely blew my mind… It’s like no other book I’ve ever listened to, in this specific category… Crazy good!!!), Morally Grey, Enemies to lovers, Friends to lovers, Dark Romance, “Psychological/Suspenseful” Romance, Erotica (The Turning Series would fall into this category, I think… I LOVE this series… Incredibly well written… Erotica at its finest). Julie, I think you could write just about anything and I would love it. I’ve purchased every book you’ve written that’s available on Audible, and I’ve listened to most of them, and there isn’t one that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. I just love how your mind works… It’s magic!! Thanks again for this awesome giveaway and for the opportunity. Happy Holidays!! 🎄❤️

I don’t know if I could pick a favorite trope. I read/listen based on my mood. I’m currently listening to a paranormal, fated mates, RH. I love me some morally grey, touch her and die, dark romance. I usually sprinkle in a good smutty rom com every now and then to lighten things up. Love a good insta love, fated mates, he falls first, mafia, MC, small town, forced proximity, the list is endless. As long as its spicy with good well developed storyline/plot with a HEA and great narrators then I am happy. Oh and of course ANYTHING written by JA Huss. 🖤

THE DANGER IN THE DAMAGE

A soldier searching for redemption.
A man addicted to control.
And the woman caught between them…

Ean Shephard knows trouble when he sees it and Olive Creed is the kind of trouble that can burn his whole world down. As Collin Creed’s baby sister, she’s completely off-limits. But her quiet strength, combined with her sad vulnerability, keeps pulling him closer. Shep came to Edge Security to escape his past, but falling for Olive could ruin his second chance and the fragile peace he’s fought so hard to find.

Brose Sinclair has always played the long game. He and Olive are more than just partners inside the shadow organization they both work for, they’re lovers. His absolute authority keeps her on track and Olive likes it that way. But her sudden attraction to their target threatens everything they’ve worked for and for the first time, Brose finds himself questioning whether control is enough to keep Olive by his side.

Olive Creed has spent her life learning to play her role perfectly. She can’t afford to mess up. Not with Brose watching her every move, looking for mistakes. Mistakes she sometimes makes on purpose just to spur on his titillating punishment. But as she starts to fall for her target and her world begins to crumble beneath her feet, Olive finds herself wondering—which one of these two men would truly be there in her darkest hour?

Brose—the one who owns her mind?

Or Shep—the one who wants her heart?

The Danger in the Damaged is a battlefield of betrayal and control, where loyalty is a weapon and obsession takes no prisoners. It’s a best-friend’s-little-sister romance caught in the crossfire of dark secrets and mind games—and this time, Collin Creed isn’t the one calling the shots.

Inside the pages you’ll find…
