Wasted Lust EOBS 3 Giveaway

JA Huss

Welcome to the End of Book Shit Take three for Wasted Lust. This meme sorta makes no sense because I’ve only done one EOBS for Wasted Lust, but I did this meme last year with the 2014 books and called it EOBS Take Two, and so… yeah. This year is three.

Anyway, you can read the original EOBS Take Two posts over on my book blog, New Adult Addiction. That series was all about finishing up Rook & Ronin, Starting The Company Books, and the Social Media series.

This year’s EOBS series is about the 2015 books and Wasted Lust is the third in this series. The first one was 321 (and there’s a $25 giveaway on that page too). The second one was Meet Me In The Dark (There’s a signed book and Merc keychain giveaway on that post) and today I’m giving away a signed copy of Wasted Lust and a Wasted Lust Release Party Pack which includes a signed copy of the Soulmates Journal and a bunch of other goodies. So don’t forget to scroll down to enter that giveaway.

What really sucks about Wasted Lust is that I can’t even talk a little bit about the best part. God, and I so want to.

But let’s start from the beginning. This book is the LAST book in the whole Company series. Sasha, who made her first appearance back in Slack in 2013, was one of the major characters in the Company Books (Come, Come Back, and Coming For You). She wasn’t actually in Come. And she didn’t have a point of view in Come Back. But she killed it anyway (pun intended).

Sasha is a pint-sized wanna-be assassin in Slack when she meets Ford Aston on Christmas Eve. She helps him out, gives him some relationship advice, and wishes him the best. The book ends with Ford giving up his Christmas to go back and see her. Something bad has happened.

Something bad can describe Sasha’s whole life after that point in time. Homeschooled out of an RV by her arms-dealing Company father, she was brought up in a neo-hippy sort of environment.

OK, here’s the thing about Sasha’s background. My dad was a hippy and even though I didn’t live with him most of my life, that asshole somehow managed to send me plane tickets every few years and had me going all over the country for summer vacations.

It took me a while as a kid to realize my father wasn’t normal. Not like, mentally ill or anything. But not normal. He was a hippy. He was a professional golfer. He was pretty far away from father of the year. He was a vegetarian, he smoked a lot of pot, took me to a lot of rock concerts, read a lot of weird shit by Richard Brautigan (like In Watermelon Sugar, which I read, because I was a book nerd back when I was a kid, and I had nothing to do all summer while he worked at the fucking golf course but read every damn inappropriate book on his bookshelf (Dirty Jokes for Golfers, The Abortion, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance to name a few).

And I swear to God, I spent the next ten years (I was ten at the time) trying to fucking figure out what that Watermelon Sugar shit meant and didn’t finally understand it was utter acid-trip bullshit until I was on acid myself).

H also made a habit of leaving me and my brother alone for twelve to fourteen hours a day to do whatever the hell we wanted.

When we were in Lake Tahoe he’d just drop us off at the private beaches with our Michelob Light beer bottle floats (courtesy of the golf course bar), stick a twenty-dollar bill in my brother’s hand, and tell us to be waiting at the park entrance at dark. One time he dropped us off at a water park outside of Phoenix and forgot to pick us back up after it closed. He made it eventually. Obviously I’m still alive. But the best one was when I was four and we were in Miami and he zipped a life jacket on me and said, “Don’t drown in the pool while I’m gone,” and then went to work. Babysitters were optional in the Seventies, you see. My poor mother almost had a heart attack when I told her these things years later.

I did learn to swim like a little motherfucker that summer though. 🙂

So it took me a while to realize this was weird. But it came in handy when I needed to give thirteen-year-old Sasha Cherlin a backstory. I imagine her father and my father were about the same on the weird level. Except my father did a lot of drugs and her father sold a lot of guns. I think probably came out ahead in that comparison, so I’m not really complaining.

Sasha is BADD-ASS. Capital letters and extra D not optional. She is a lot like I was, only much more cynical. I admit, I was rather naïve. I believed people were generally good well into my twenties. Sasha has no such illusions. She has been in survival mode her whole life.

And even though it’s not spelled out in Slack what’s really going on with Sasha at the antique mall where Ford is shopping for gifts and Merc is making an illegal gun deal in the back room with her father… I knew this was the story.

Sasha was a Company kid.

If you’ve read the Dirty, Dark, and Deadly series you know that the Company is a global shadow government filled with thousands of people who are born into it, like… royalty. Only without the status because it’s a secret organization and all. And the very worst thing you can be in the Company is a girl.

It takes Sasha a while to figure this out. She gets some inclination in the DDD books but she doesn’t fully comprehend it until later when she’s grown up and she has thoughts of having children of her own.

Merc and Sasha’s stories are intricately woven and tied together. He saved her when she was twelve. The night her father’s past finally caught up with him. And she got a new father figure with Ford, once all the killing was over. But the thing about the Company is… you can’t escape. You’re born into it. It’s your heritage. So fast forward a decade later and Sasha is doing her best to fit into her new grown up world as “normal”.

Well, she can’t be normal. She’s never going to be normal. She has weird in her blood. So even though she wants to fit in, she can’t. Wasted Lust is Sasha’s story of coming to terms with who and what she is, her place in the world after the Company, and where she sees herself in the future.

I wish (so hard) I could talk about Nick and where he fits into this, but I can’t. Not one word, sorry. But if you’ve read the Company books and have not yet picked up Wasted Lust, holy shit. You gotta do this now. One of the best endings I’ve ever written, complete with an epilogue about James and harper, Merc and Sydney, and Sasha and…??

Plus, there is the added bonus of Sasha, who is in grad school and lives in Kansas, going home to Fort Collins for Sparrow Flynn’s seventh birthday party. She gets to see Ashleigh, Veronica, and Rook all settled into their domestic lives. Those birthday scenes were my set-up for the Rook & Ronin Happily Ever After book that released at the end of last year. If you’re a fan of R&R, you will smile the whole time you’re reading that novella.

The prize in today’s giveaway is a Sparrow Flynn birthday bag. So there’s cute stuff in there like a miniature Spencer Lego and a motorcycle 3-d puzzle. And the Soulmates journal has some of the best quotes from the R&R and DDD gangs. We threw Sparrow a virtual birthday party on Facebook for the Wasted Lust release and one thing my street team helped me with was creating Pinterest boards of everyone’s homes. About the Book

Wasted Lust is a 321 spin-off, full-length, romantic suspense filled with lies, secrets, and the power of redemption by the New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss.

Sasha Cherlin died the night she let Nick Tate walk out on her for a life of crime. Her very essence was destroyed when they broke their promise to one another.

Nick Tate made his choice with her future in mind. He loved Sasha enough to know that leaving her behind was the only way to keep her safe.

Special Agent Jax Barlow understands the bond of love and he plans to use it to get justice. Nick and Sasha will do anything to rewrite their past. He’s counting on that to bring them down.

Wasted Lust is a standalone book, BUT, you have to be willing to go along for the ride. The Sasha character has a long history in all my other books (she was twelve in those books, now she’s grown up). And it’s a parallel book to 321, so new story, new characters, but same timeline and the plots converge in the middle. No spoilers for 321 in Wasted Lust.

Undoubtedly I just smacked myself in the head … several times! I have this sitting on my Kindle and thought surely I had read it, but for the life of me I don’t think I ever did. I’m currently reading an ARC for another Author, which I will finish later today and Wasted Lust is keyed to go when I’m done. How in the WORLD did I miss Sasha??

“I think being asked to reflect on my future was a warning shot in the chest that life is about to change. Some sort of catalyst that will propel me towards my true purpose.”

  4. Melissa Killingbeck

I have bought it but have yet to read this one, I’m read MMITD first then this, I think that’s how its suggested. Thanks for the insight to your dad, you crack my ass up and my couple times tripping on acid I dunno what watermelon whatever was but I knew walls could melt and leaves could blow up and make scary things so my last time I got on my knees and prayed to God to please let me come off this high and I would never ever do it again! 🙂 Life aint it Grand, I do love Sasha and I cannot wait to read her finale book!
