Goodbye Junco

Goodbye Junco

This series is about aliens. Aliens who came to Earth thousands of years ago, then left. And left lots of things behind. Including people. And then they RETURN. Clever title for Book Five, right? I spent two years writing the Junco series. In fact, I pretty much spent all of 2012 doing nothing but writing the first four and a half books of Junco. I spent most of this year writing about Rook and Ronin. Except this last book, RETURN. […]

RANGE  and MAGPIE are number one and two in cyberpunk hot new releases.  Granted, cyberpunk is not a smokin’ category, but we own it right now because FLIGHT and RANGE are both number five and six in the whole genre. I’ll take it. Please follow and like us:0

MARKETING MONDAY: Making a Kick-Ass Book Trailer

I skipped Marketing Monday last week – sorry.  I was finishing up a new book and that sucked all the life out of me.  Since the last post I did was on cover art and artists, this week I thought I’d shed some light on how I make a book trailer. I know what you’re thinking – book trailers suck, they’re boring, and they have no bearing on sales. Maybe.  That might all be true, but if you have a […]

Marketing Monday – All About Book Blog Tours

I was not going to do a Marketing Monday today but it’s been a long day of editing and most of it has been awful so I wanted to stop for a while and do something else.  It’s not so much the editing, there’s not that much to fix really, but can I just say some days Scrivener makes me want to bang my head against my desk. I love Scrivener, but come on.  I copy the text from the […]

How to Make a Book Banner for a Book Blog Tour

I wrote up a post about how much I love book tour banners over at new Adult Addiction and since I have Range and Magpie Bridge releasing on April 1, I went ahead and made up the banners to go with the tour that will run from April 1-30. I’ve got a lot of sign-ups for the tour – which is pretty cool because I was thinking if I got ten or twelve blogs to do a two week tour […]

EXCERPT from RANGE – I Am Just Junco Book Four

Today is all about Selia – we met Selia back in Clutch – book one of the I Am Just Junco series.  She’s in Flight for a little bit as well, but in Range, Selia really comes into her own. Selia is BADASS.  She’s Junco, but with fashion sense and not insane.  And this is one of my favorite scenes with Selia in the new book –  Sera has just talked Junco into doing something stupid and she’s about to […]

On Writing The End…and How it Leads to Beginnings

I wrote The End this week.  After about four months and more than 100,000 words, book four is finished. Well, sorta.  Because really, only the first draft is completed.  Normally I don’t do a lot of edits in the first draft.  I do edit – I proofread as I go to make it easier later.  But normally I DO NOT delete large chunks of text.  But that NaNo thing really screwed me up.  I deleted about half of it.  I’ll […]

Plotting the Series – Fictional Characters in the Beginning

Last week I wrote about plotting the standard story structure through a series, this week I’m going to illustrate how you plot the beginning of the series as well as the beginning of a standalone book. Not all people hate a cliffhanger, but I’d guess and say most people do.  I do.  I really hate getting to the end and I’m left hanging with no closure.  And I know from reading Goodreads reviews that lots of people agree with me […]

Plotting the Standard Story Structure

I haven’t blogged in a few days, but I have been writing.  I’m not making 2500 words a day, but close.  I write in scenes and sometimes a scene is just over and I’m not in the mood to start a whole new one just to make word count.  Besides, I have to have the scene mapped out before I can write it.  I never just make shit up as I go. I’m also more than 50,000 words into this […]

NaNoWriMo – Day Three

Day Three I did 1922 words today but it seriously took me all day to get this scene down in my head before I started writing. The previous scenes were action, which rarely involves theme in my writing. But today was a slowdown scene, you know – those scenes in between the action where characters reflect and think about the bigger picture. That’s what this scene was.  I started planning it this morning around 6 AM and it took me […]

NaNoWriMo – Day One

So it’s November and just about every writer, ever, knows and/or is participating in National Novel Writing Month, affectionately known as NaNoWriMo.  I’ve never done NaNo before, I’ve only been writing fiction since January, but since I’m trying to get book four finished I thought I’d use it to keep me motivated and give myself permission to concentrate on writing fiction only this month.  I have several non-fiction units in various stages of development to get me through with new […]
