REVIEW: ROURK BY JULIA CRANE
This book was a total surprise for me – for one, it’s about an elf, but that’s not the surprising part… the absolute best part about this book was the fact that this fantasy mixes with the real world. Rourk is a husband and a warrior… in the human army! LOL… this just blew me away. I’m a closet military SF lover, so even though this book is not Military SF, it had some cool military stuff in it. That just makes all the difference for me. It’s the difference between a purely made-up fantasy and one that has lots of realistic elements to it. I prefer my fantasy with a big dose of reality and Julia Crane certainly pulled it off in this little novella.
Also, I’ve never read Keegan’s Chronicles, an entire series of three other books featuring these same characters, but I didn’t need to in order to understand and enjoy Rourk. Who, BTW, is one hot elf! The covers for this series are incredible.
Most of this story is about Keegan as she’s left at home when Rourk goes off to fight in Afghanistan and she’s like any loved one left behind, worried sick about what might happen to him, but these two share a special bond that allows them to communicate long distances. Oh, that’s special! I loved those conversations
This novella certainly whet my appetite for more in this series and I am definitely going to be going back and starting from the beginning with Keegan’s Chronicles.
