$500 GIVEAWAY: Eighteen (18) Based on a True Story

“You came,” he says, after a few moments of rest. His eyes open and he looks straight at me. “You came in my mouth.” I just stare back. Unable to talk. Unable to comprehend what he’s saying. “You’re a liar.” He smiles. “But I’m a good one, right?” “What?” “You believed me. And you know why you believed me, Shannon?” “That never happened?” He scoffs. “Please, how drunk would you have to be for me to suck you off and […]

How to Tell a Story, JA Huss Style

How to Tell a Story, JA Huss Style

When I first starting writing Clutch, my very first fiction book, I thought a lot about how I’d like to tell this story. It started, as someone accused me in a review, in medias res – in the middle of the action. It was not a complimentary review, but whatever. I knew what I was doing then and I know what I’m doing now. I decided to start Junco in the middle of a crisis. Her father was dead, she […]

TRAGIC Updates!

The TRAGIC Release Week (and the week after) were a full-blown success from my viewpoint! I’m thrilled with how things shook out and I’d just like to take a second to thank a bunch of people who helped… Mostly, Damaris and the bloggers who participated in the release day blitz via Good Choice Reading Tours. Also, I had a private blitz set up and I had a bunch of my favorite people take part in that one as well. So […]

Just a shitload of news

Wow – what a week. If you’re on the homepage of this blog, you can see the post below was an announcement for my annual open house at Simple Schooling, which is the subscription website I run for homeschoolers. Before I wrote fiction, I wrote non-fiction. A lot of non-fiction. Anyway, I have two huge promotions each year. In May I run a week long open house where I let anyone come on the website and sample ten of my […]

Resolutions for 2013

I hate making resolutions.  Goals, yeah, I’m on board with goals.  But resolutions never seem to make it back around to the next December. I did, however, have a pretty successful 2012 in that I published three full length novels and wrote a fourth.  I started writing Clutch on January 3, 2012 and I published all three books on October 1 (actually, it was like September 19th I think).  So yay for me. Nonetheless, I am now self-employed (with all […]

My Number One Fan?

He really doesn’t even have a name…I just call him Bird.  He’s a major pain in the ass. Major. Pain. In the ass. He just tore the cover on that Clutch book on the desk (which is my personal copy, thank you) and now he’s trying to eat the globe. He thinks sitting on my head and playing with my hair while I type is fun, but God f-ing forbid I try and touch him. He screams like a girl. […]

Top Ten Attributes of Strong Female Characters

In my new series, I Am Just Junco, my main character is Junco, a nineteen year old girl who’s been trained by her country to be an assassin. She’s got mad, kick-ass skills, but she also has some not-so-kick-ass skills that come in handy in a stressful situation. She’s not your typical strong female character (SFC). We all know the stereotypical SFC, right? Katniss, from The Hunger Games – I’m sure she’s on all the lists for her archery skill […]
