OK, so today’s EOBS Take 3 is about SEXY! YAY!

The one thing I have to talk about for this book is the amazing trailer I made for it. Click it right now before you read any further. Right now. You won’t regret it!

OK, back now? I was right, #amiright?

I make all my own trailers (and covers) because I’m a control freak. I don’t know that I’d ever be a good candidate for a traditional publishing deal because I am just so fucking picky when it comes to just about everything. Even my audiobook contract (I have some of them with a publisher) has a special clause in it that allows me to have final say on the producer’s choice of narrators. No one else gets that (so they tell me) but when we discussed me going with them, I told them the one thing that makes me hesitate is not having control over the narration. And in audio, the narration is everything.

Now, I went with the best audio company out there. Podium Publishing is pretty new in the audiobook scene and has already won a ton of awards for the productions. So I’m glad I didn’t take offers from other companies before I was introduced to them.

Anyway, I’m like this with the trailers too. I have this vision in my head and I want all my readers to have that same vision. When I write, every word is put on paper to try and get readers to envision that story, that scene, that character, that conversation, or internal monologue – just the way I imagine it in my head. That’s why I use some nontraditional sentence and paragraph structure. And luckily I have an editor who understand my style and my voice, so she knows when to change things and when to leave it the fuck alone.

When I went to make this trailer for Sexy I found the music first. I always try to find the music first because If you don’t have the right timing, the right length, the right way to end the video with sound—then the whole thing falls to shit.

So I found this amazing upbeat music that lends itself perfectly for a “stripper story”. And once I had that, everything else was easy. I just found a template (which was a horror template, if you can believe it) that was the right length for the sound.

I was so happy with this video! It’s pretty hot. And it perfectly describes what’s going on in this book. A prude-ish hotel manager meets a charismatic stripper who teaches her “how to be sexy”.

This book was born while was at a stripper show after the Cleveland Author Even in 2015 with my Street Team! Thanks Bella, for setting this all up. It was crazy fun! And as soon as this show started Jana Aston and I looked at each other and we were both like, “This is a book!”.

There are so many ways to write a stripper story, but I don’t like to write what’s expected. I like to twist everything up. So of course, Sexy Fletcher Novak is not just any stripper. He’s got a secret. Shhh. This is not a romantic suspense though. It’s not a dark book at all. It’s a book about what’s on the inside (sexy) and stereotypes. You expect the characters to be cardboard based on who they are and where they (seem) to come from.

Fletcher is just a stripper.

Tiffy is just an over-privileged rich girl.

Or not.

And together they are complete opposites. But Tiffy is in lust with her “boss” and Fletcher wants to save his job, so he offers to teach Tiffy the “art of being Sexy”. She goes for it and yeah. That’s the set up.

But that’s not what this book is about. Sexy isn’t a deep book or a dark twisted suspense. It’s just fun. Just like that night at the Thunder Down Under show in Cleveland. Just fun. But fun has meaning too. And this book has a very good message about self-image and not letting other people define you.

It’s just about feeling sexy, being sexy, and knowing you’re sexy. So many people want to be these things, but Fletcher has these things. Was born that way, has always been Sexy. And all he wants if for people to see what’s beyond that hot exterior.

This book surprised me a little. It made the USA Today Bestsellers list for the week of release and I had no idea that was gonna happen. I don’t usually keep track of numbers because I’m too busy. But yay for a little romantic comedy called Sexy. I blame its success on the video.

I also made these fabulous Sexy is on the inside bracelets as swag for this release and this is what’s in the giveaway prize. So make sure you enter to win. I only have two of these left on my swag shelf, so they are definitely not going to show up again in any other giveaways. You also get a signed copy of the book and a swag pack.

Tomorrow is the EOBS 3 for Eighteen. 321 made NYT when it released, but 18 outsold 321 by far in the first three weeks, even though it never made NYT. It resonated, as they say. So come back tomorrow for that giveaway and inside gossip—or better yet, just fill out your email in that box below and I’ll send that new post right to your inbox.
